About CAPRIGHTS-VP

The Center for the Advancement and Protection of the Rights of Vulnerable People (CAPRIGHTS-VP) is a Nigerian non-governmental, non-profit organization established out of a deep commitment to social justice, human dignity, and the belief that every person deserves the opportunity to live a safe, dignified, and fulfilling life.

Registered in 2017, CAPRIGHTS-VP works to protect, promote, and advance the rights and well-being of vulnerable and marginalized people and communities across Nigeria. We serve women and girls, children, youth, widows and widowers, persons with disabilities, elderly persons, survivors of abuse and violence, people seeking justice, and other underserved populations whose voices are often unheard and whose rights are frequently overlooked.

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, we believe that vulnerability should never be a barrier to opportunity, justice, or human dignity. Yet millions of people continue to face poverty, discrimination, exclusion, abuse, and limited access to essential services and protection. Our work exists to challenge these inequalities and create pathways for vulnerable people to realize their rights, improve their livelihoods, and participate fully in society.

Our identity is rooted in communities. We are a grassroots organization that works directly with the people we serve, listening to their experiences, understanding their challenges, and partnering with them to develop practical and sustainable solutions. We recognize that lasting change is most effective when communities themselves are empowered to become agents of their own development.

Through advocacy, education, legal aid, psychosocial support, economic empowerment, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, CAPRIGHTS-VP bridges the gap between vulnerable populations and the institutions, opportunities, and resources that can improve their lives. Our approach combines immediate support with long-term solutions that address the root causes of vulnerability, exclusion, and injustice.

Over the years, we have built trusted relationships with communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, development partners, and professional networks, working collectively to promote inclusion, strengthen resilience, and advance human rights.

Today, CAPRIGHTS-VP continues to champion a society where every person, regardless of gender, age, disability, economic status, or social background, is treated with dignity, protected from harm, empowered to reach their potential, and able to enjoy their fundamental human rights.

Five Commitments That Drive Our Work

Our Objectives

At CAPRIGHTS-VP, our work is guided by a clear purpose: to protect rights, promote dignity, and create opportunities for vulnerable people and communities to thrive. These five commitments shape every programme, partnership, and intervention we undertake across Nigeria.

01

Economic Empowerment

We empower women, youth, widows, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable groups with livelihood skills, entrepreneurship opportunities, financial inclusion initiatives, and economic support that promote self-reliance, resilience, and improved standards of living.

02

Education, Awareness, and Informed Decision-Making

We educate and sensitize individuals and communities about their rights, available opportunities, and essential services, enabling them to make informed decisions, access resources, and actively participate in improving their lives and communities.

03

Social Inclusion and Community Connection

We bridge the gap between vulnerable people and the institutions, services, and opportunities that can support them. By amplifying marginalized voices and strengthening community participation, we promote inclusion, representation, and equitable access to support systems.

04

Access to Justice and Human Rights Protection

We facilitate access to justice through legal aid, rights education, referrals, and advocacy initiatives that protect and advance the rights of vulnerable people. We work to ensure that every individual can seek redress, exercise their rights, and live free from discrimination, abuse, and exploitation.

05

Creating Enabling Environments for Sustainable Development

We work with communities, government institutions, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to create safe, inclusive, and supportive environments where vulnerable people can thrive. Through advocacy, partnership, and systems-strengthening, we address the root causes of vulnerability and promote sustainable development, dignity, and opportunity for all.

An Integrated Approach to Change

These commitments do not stand alone. They reinforce one another to create lasting and sustainable impact.

When a woman is economically empowered, she is better able to support her family. When a young person understands their rights, they become an advocate for positive change. When a survivor gains access to justice, they can rebuild their life with dignity and hope. When communities are informed, connected, and empowered, they become stronger and more resilient.

Together, these commitments form CAPRIGHTS-VP's integrated approach to advancing human rights, reducing vulnerability, and building inclusive communities where no one is left behind.
