To commemorate the International Day of Families, the Center for the Advancement and Protection of the Rights of Vulnerable People (CAPRIGHTS-VP) participated in a special live radio programme on Metro 97.7 FM, reinforcing the importance of strong family systems in protecting women, children, and other vulnerable groups.

Representing the organization, Ugwueze Chinecherem, Communication Officer, highlighted the vital role families play as the foundation of every healthy society. She emphasized that beyond biological relationships, families should be safe spaces where love, protection, dignity, guidance, and support are consistently fostered.

Drawing on CAPRIGHTS-VP's extensive community engagement and child protection work especially on the Program to Address Exploitative Child Domestic Work in Lagos, she noted that many social challenges including child abuse, neglect, domestic violence, exploitation, and other forms of vulnerability are often rooted in weakened family structures. Strengthening families, she explained, is therefore essential to preventing these issues and promoting the well-being of women and children.

The discussion also emphasized the importance of positive parenting, shared responsibility, safeguarding practices, and community collaboration in creating homes where every individual feels safe, respected, and valued. She called on parents, caregivers, community leaders, faith-based organizations, government institutions, and civil society organizations to work together in building stronger families and more resilient communities.

CAPRIGHTS-VP remains committed to advancing family-centered interventions through advocacy, public awareness, community engagement, and partnerships that promote child protection, gender equality, and the rights and dignity of vulnerable people.
